Monthly rewind: New work for Cartier, Amazon Business, Warner Bros, Ubisoft and more.

October 2, 2023

Last month we saw so much of our work finally hit the big (and little) screen. The endless creativity of our teams is brought to life through new adverts, movies, series and much more. But that’s not all. We have been working behind the scenes on plenty more, and as the anticipation builds, we tease you with some new trailers of what’s to come!

In the last few weeks, we saw The Nun II hit the big screen. In its release week, it became the highest-grossing film, which topped worldwide box office. For the project, the MPC Paris & Bangalore teams created 70 shots in collaboration with BUF Company & Peninsula Film.

The highly anticipated Season 2 of The Wheel of Time is also now out! Based on the book series by Robert Jordan and set in a high fantasy world where magic exists, but only some can access it, a woman named Moiraine crosses paths with five young men and women where the great hunt begins.

The Mill

Over in the Advertising world, The Mill has also been busy releasing several new projects. Take a peek at what they have been up to 👇

Cartier – Markers of Style

The Paris motion design team set about creating the set using textures provided by the Mazarine and Cartier agency, which are all present on Cartier products or establishments to transport the viewer on a real journey into the brand’s universe. Our artists followed the classic rotoscoping steps to achieve this before moving on to asset integration. The main challenge was artistic and focused on the combination of image and sound, as Cartier’s identity had to emerge through the screen in a subtle way, following the rhythm desired by the client. Gong Li was very involved in the project and visited The Mill Paris studio twice to supervise the editing with our teams.

Amazon Business – Bloom

A beautiful spot, created in collaboration with Joint London and Outsider’s DOM&NIC. The unbroken, moving shot follows Faith, a florist whose business is struggling before the help of Amazon Business. Watch her business bloom and flourish as the shot moves and her floral empire grows.

“A fun project that required many disciplines to arrive at the final picture. At its heart, it is a complex, choreographed stage show performance, a single continuous camera and constantly evolving set. As simple as the end result appears to be, there were many challenges to figure out along the way” says VFX Supervisor, Andy Steele.

World Animal Protection – The Thoughtful Pig

The Mill teamed up with World Animal Protection and All Mighty Pictures to raise awareness around factory farming.

The thoughtful pig is designed to make people think, to think about how they can make a difference, be part of the change and support World Animal Protection to create a future without factory farming, where respect for wild animals and nature sits at the heart of food production.

For the realisation of this project, the team started with an extensive research phase. They then delved into the lives and behaviour of real pigs to understand their movements, expressions, and anatomy to ensure accuracy and realism in their CGI creation.

Hennessy – Life is the Greatest Odyssey

With the idea that each drop of Hennessy X.O is an Odyssey, we follow a musician for 7 minutes as he travels through his memories.

“The film centers around the idea that the most fleeting of emotions can trigger an odyssey wherein childhood, early adulthood, and the future overlap,” said Damien Chazelle. A captivating scenario between space and time, a theatrical production sublimated by sumptuous VFX and live sets that transport the spectator into the world of Hennessy.
